At over 150 years old, this exceedingly well-preserved carpet exudes a strength and stateliness that is immediately captivating. Its grand central ornament quietly unifies this piece while revealing aged, intriguing waves of russet red striations. The technique of abrash throughout this #art #rug is used dramatically, reflecting a passionate, confidant use of color that is much more often seen in early rugs and is responsible for their appeal to connoisseurs. Large-scale blossoms and stylized oak leaves float on top the ceaseless striation adding a marvelous sense of depth.
