(High-Collectible) (“Fall/Winter 2019 Print Catalog”) This masterful antique Serapi, brimming with innovative drawing and sumptuous color makes a lasting impact. This expansive village rug is unique, from the petalled indigo center of the medallion to the large abstracted botanical forms in the corner pieces. The overscale, elemental deconstructed flowers and leaves that fill the spacious medallion and field are delightfully expressive. Adding to the artistry is the gloriously and deftly dyed sunrise reds that offset similarly nuanced azure, turquoise and sea foam green in the spandrels. Equally artful is the entrancing blossom and vine motif on the warm sandstone-toned main border, its meandering chain of oak leaves forming loops that rise and fall in a lifelike rhythm.
