“CYPRESS TREE” Perhaps the most beloved, and difficult to execute, motifs in Persian carpets is the “happiness Tree” design, known in the west as “prayer tree.” In the Eastern world, this pattern is called “life Tree” and it is often presented holding within it a flower in full bloom, symbolizing its potential to burst forth with life. This stunningly intricate, sophisticated Turkoman area rug is a woven ode to this design, remarkably finely knotted with a panoply of graceful pods, brilliantly commingled and filled with expressive greens and vivid rose tones.
