At first glance, the carmine medallion takes center stage, filled with finely drawn floral motifs and birds, and ensconced within multiple blossom-filled surrounds. Soon, the pictorial elements come into view, including sailing ships crewed by a man playing a flute, a sailor tending to the sails, and other dignitaries. There also appear to be men swimming in the azure water accompanied by numerous jumping fish. At either end of the field, along the central axis, appear pairs of benign-looking sea serpents, the harbingers of great wisdom.
