Full pile throughout, a few minor restorations, overall very good condition Localised wear to field, natural corrosion to rust-red, selvages partially lacking private collection CIRCA 1850 10ft.7in. x 7ft.8in 327cm. x 240cm 3rd Quarter, 19th Century From an elite class of the broad pantheon of Persian rugs and extremely finely knotted of silky wool, this Mohtasham Kashan is instantly recognizable from the nimble handling of ethereal, early soft pastels alongside saturated gem tones greatly intensifying its impact. With purposefully bold dark coral streaks, a color-shifting carnelian reserve reflects a daring artistic proclivity from another time. These more potent shades are paired with an elegantly faceted elliptical medallion and elongated corner spandrels of luminous parchment. The fluidly scrolling, finely outlined vinery glazed in exquisite celadon and pale gold blush, each drawn with extraordinary finesse, ensures the negative space integral to the composition. With the midnight tulip and rosette main border as a counterpoint, a remarkable visual symphony is completed. Signs of heavier use in the upper field brings to this dynamic piece an extremely advantageous price.
