A SILK-SOUF KASHAN CARPET Derived from a blending of Persian and European influences, a virtuoso, continually changing rendition of the “lachaktoranji Souf” pattern scrolls graciously across the glowing indigo ground of this virtuoso room-size carpet. The depth and character of the composition are greatly enhanced by a fantastic range of scale, from smaller flowers and foliage to more magnificent wreaths and garlands. A robust and earthy naturally dyed palette consists of unexpected hues such as time-matured clouded cobalt, paled periwinkle, sparkling emerald greens, and sunset sandstone, magnifying its fluidity its design. The dervish-like tracery of the vivid tangerine vinery of the primary border enhances the carpet’s lively sense of movement, connecting palmettes with adorable flower spouting urns. This is an extremely well-preserved Town carpet kashan on a small scale.
