This highly important and superbly preserved Safavid Kirman carpet fragment, belongs to a group known as 'Vase' carpets, a term coined by the art historian Dr. May Beattie because of the mosaic-patterned Chinese-style vases that appear in their design. The present section is extremely fortunate in that it remains beautifully balanced in design and proportion and includes all of the salient aspects of the design, including not one but two vases where others have none. Through its complex design and skilful play of colour, the audience is transported to a garden of Paradise.
