One of my personal favourite discoveries of the year is one of the most classical of all rugs in my collection. A mint condition and first generation Kork Kashan woven with lustrous lambswool and glowing vegetable dyes. Yes, it’s classical to the point of being a textbook example of a fine Persian carpet. But that would be missing the point. This is one of the OG’s, a prime influencer copied by hundreds of thousands of other rugs in the century that followed it. And it brings amazing pleasure and packs tremendous value. The quality of materials and weave is stunning. Velvet. The radiance of the dyes is breathtaking. Especially set against the deeply saturated indigo field. The elegance of design is confident and rich all over. The drawing of the Saz leaves and Lotus flowers is sublime. There’s just so much pleasure and beauty seeping out of this piece of art and history. Like all of my gallery collection, it’s part of the 10 year anniversary sale.
