About Atigh Jame' Mosque

Atigh Jame' Mosque is the oldest mosque in Shiraz which is also called Jom'ah Mosque. The first building of this mosque was constructed in 281 A.H. and later Shah Ishagh Injoo constructed a building in the middle of this mosque that was called Khoday Khaneh (the House of God) or Dar al-Mushaf and it is a place for keeping the Qur'an and reading it. The stone inscription of this mosque is one of the precious samples of calligraphy art written by Yahya Al-Jamali Al-Soofi, the famous calligrapher of Shah Ishagh Period and this inscription contains sentences in praise of the Quran. This mosque is the first religious center of Shiraz that has had social and political role along with its religious function. Therefore, it has six entrances in various sides the major of which is the north entrance.
