About Shir-e Sangi

Shir-e Sangi (Stone Lion) is among monuments of Hamadan, which is located at the end of Sang-e Shir Street in the middle of a square with the same name. The hill where Stone Lion is located is now an ancient hill, since a coffin belonging to the Parthian Era has been found there and now it is kept in Hegmataneh Hill Museum. First, Stone Lion along with its symmetry were located at the gate of Hamadan. However, in 319 AD, as Deylamids seized Hamadan, they totally destroyed the city gate. Mardavij Deylami had decided to move one of these statues to Rey, and since he was not able to move it, he broke the claws of one of these lions and totally destroyed the other one. Stone Lion has been registered as a national monument of Iran.
