About Balaghi Gorge

Balaghi Gorge is a mountainous passage located between Pasargadae and Persepolis, near Saadat Shahr on the way of Shahi Road. Shahi Road has been a highway and a passage that connected Pasargadae, Persepolis, Shoosh and other imperial areas of Iran. According to the new discoveries, Balaghi Gorge has not only been a mountainous passage. Rather, it has been very prosperous in various eras. At this location, works from Paleolithic, Neolithic, Elamite, Achaemenid, Parthian, Sassanid and early Islamic period have been discovered. The oldest works discovered in Balaghi Gorge belong to 7500 years ago. Of works discovered in this area are a 7500-year-old pottery workshop, a 7000-year-old ancient site, a 6000-year-old cemetery, a 5500-year-old stone stamp, and an ancient village related to Achaemenid era with defensive walls and sewage-disposal clay pipes.
