About Shokatieh School

Shokatieh School is located in the old part of Birjand, in Shahid Montazeri Street. Shokatieh School is the third Iranian school that was founded to the style of new schools in Iran. The construction of this school finished in 1891 under the title of Hosseiniyyeh Shokatieh and then, this building became a school in 1904. Shokatieh School is composed of a central space as a courtyard and connected spaces all around the courtyard according to the Iranian desert architecture style. The courtyard, which is covered by bricks with a pool in the middle, encompasses the major space of this building. This is a single-porch building with a high and magnificent veranda and it encompasses the elements of Iranian architecture including propylaeum, vestibule, atrium, and veranda, chambers around the courtyard, alcove, and the bathhouse. Shokatieh School is adorned with beautiful muqarnas, plasterwork, rasmibandi and brickwork.
