About Maharloo Lake

Maharloo Lake is located in Sarvestan County, Fars Province. It is called Maharloo after a village located next to it the old region of which is located on the bank of this lake. It is a salt lake and considered as one of the major salt resources of Iran during arid seasons. The Soltan Abad River and the Khoshk River are two seasonal rivers that feed Maharloo Lake. In addition, water from several springs enters this lake from west and north sections. The main bird species in Maharloo Lake is flamingo. Other birds, namely shelduck, mallards, duck, common redshank and coot live near Maharloo Lake in addition to flamingo. Some tourist villages near this lake include Maharloo, Bokat, Kamal Abad, Barmshoor, Ghanbari, Hezar Darreh, Anjireh and Seyf Abad. The mountains overlooking it include Ghal'eh Gorikhteh Mount, East Mount and North Mount.
