This is an superbly preserved, first-quality representative of the Bakhtiari tribe’s most cherished carpet pattern. The Garden Compartment design is centuries old, originally reflecting the royal Safavid Garden design where each area divided by waterways was dedicated to a particular plant. By the end of the 19th century, only occasional examples emerged in different rug styles, except the Bakhtiari weavers who found in its format a fountain of inspiration. Here, in their traditional richly colored palette, willow, fruit, and starflower trees mingle with more fanciful “boteh bushes” and garden archways. Its great variety of motifs is rare and dexterous accomplished. Its very fine knotting referred to by the Bakhtiaris as “Bibibaff” or “Grandmother’s Weave” is notable and its condition superb. 6’ 2” x 7’ 4” 201cm x 153cm 20th century Final review! Bakhtiari rugs woven before 1880 are renowned for their extremely durable wool and luminous color derived from natural dyestuffs. 18,5 meters , BAKHTIARI ,100 years old circa 1920 , 489cm x 380cm ,beautiful and durable with a special color and design, worthy of admiration, Hamedan is a well-known name in the production of Persian carpets that makes this Persian art proud, which has been active since ancient times. A wonderful casual ambiance emanates from this wholly charming Hamadan village carpet. Filled with graphic energy, it borrows its spaciously overscale floral medley from the neighboring Sultanabad tradition, naïvely rendered in this seldom-found small room size format. Conveying an abundant garden in bloom, the harmoniously proportioned use of space is simultaneously capturing a sense of expansiveness where the blossoms are truncated on all sides, as if the pattern stretches into infinity. The glowing rust-toned ground presents beautiful striation of tonalities from deeply saturated notes of cinnabar to persimmon while scintillating shades of blue shift from sky to a richly-hued, glowing azure as the eye moves down from the top. Intriguing, spontaneous abrash streaks near the bottom reveal deep walnut brown borders and darkly outlined floral forms are visually amplified.

With a striking, magnanimous ambiance, it reinterprets the age-old "Tree of Life" design, rendered with crystalline clarity and great dimensionality. Amidst the realistically depicted blossoms and foliage interact a clutch of three curious avian characters. A spectrum of deep, skillfully wrought tones highlighted by a brilliant sapphire blue fills the rows of blossoms that enclose its grand ivory medallion. This turn of the 20th century antique carpet's fine knotting, referred to by this tribe as Bibibaff or "Grandmother's Weave" infuses a crisp, admirable clarity to each silhouetted flower, quietly evoking the wonder of a garden in full bloom. 150 years old BAKHTIARI Persian Carpet! design name : FARADONBE This originally conceived rug embraces the European cabbage rose design referred to in Persia and the Caucasus as ‘FARADONBE’ or ‘Foreign Flower’. Within a field of decidedly elemental tribal motifs, an elegant burnished gold-frame is placed holding a bouquet of beautifully rendered cabbage roses, silhouetted on ivory. Rose water was first distilled in Persia and is still produced there to today so the connection to the rose flower is historical. Price upon request! 5' 1" x 6' 10" 155cm x 208cm Circa 1870-75 It is interesting the rest of this rug’s field is dominated by small elemental tulip shapes, not particularly prominent in the tribe’s lexicon, possibly referencing another historical export, Persia’s bulb-based flower to Europe! The Bakhtiari are masters of jewel toned dyeing as is evident in this rug’s potent, diverse color palette ranging from shades of raspberry, rose, indigo, jade, bronze, and cerulean and including abrash color shifts.

In a very rare 6' x 8' size and with such an original presentation, it provides many possible possibilities for use in the home. The artfully syncopated, strikingly grand scale border alternates saffron and watermelon-hued blossoms between delightfully squared blossom lattices--the ideal structure to contain the joyfully freeform activity of the soft ivory interior within. Color is expertly wielded throughout: note how the prussian blue and teal accent tones are interwoven in surprising ways in each compositional zone. The Khans or chiefs of the Bakhtiari tribe were the most powerful and richest feudal lords in Persia in the period 1900-1920. They funneled their wealth into some of the country’s foremost carpet workshops and commissioned a number of ultra fine masterpieces for their mansions and estates. This marvelous beauty was commissioned by the tribal chief Agha Morteza Qoli Khan in the year 1325. The knot count is remarkably high, for a tribal rug or otherwise. The real star of the show are the incredible dye materials especially the saffron yellow and apricot. 225 x 135 Dated 1325 = 1907

An early Bakhtiar Garden Carpet of ‘Tree’ or ‘Forest’ variety, with the most sensational natural dyes. This is a variation of the Bīd Majnūn style, executed with conviction and panache. The XXL size suggests it was woven in a Khan’s private workshop. It has an all wool foundation - yes, a startling thing - denoting a XIX century origin (unlike almost all Bakhtiari rugs). The deep saturation of the natural dyes confirms this.

BAKHTIARI This is an superbly preserved, 145-year-old first-quality representative of the Bakhtiari tribe’s most cherished carpet pattern. The Garden Compartment design is centuries old, originally reflecting the royal Safavid Garden design where each area divided by waterways was dedicated to a particular plant. By the end of the 19th century, only occasional examples emerged in different rug styles, except the Bakhtiari weavers who found in its format a fountain of inspiration. Here, in their traditional richly colored palette, willow, fruit, and starflower trees mingle with more fanciful “boteh bushes” and garden archways. Its great variety of motifs is rare and dexterous accomplished. Its very fine knotting referred to by the Bakhtiaris as “Bibibaff” or “Grandmother’s Weave” is notable and its condition superb. 10' 9" x 14' 2" 328 cm x 432 cm Circa 1875

BAKHTIARI Very large Persian Bakhtiaris are extremely difficult to find, especially when boasting such great age and individual character. This over 170-year-old representative of this beloved style is not only of the great, This excellent quality vintage Persian Bakhtiari Haft Shotor carpet presents an unusual rhythmic, undulating allover pattern on a rich ruby field. Like a giant puzzle each row seamlessly interlocks with the other, infinitely repeating according to the traditional belief of the rug designer and weavers. Bakhtiari rugs woven before 1880 are renowned for their extremely durable wool and luminous color derived from natural dyestuffs. The design is punctuated with striking color tones, such as dusky rose, emerald green, aqua and sapphire, adding even greater visual interest to this highly animated carpet. Happily, as well as being a fascinating decorative composition, it is in excellent, heavier pile condition 10' 7" x 30' 6" 343cm x 894cm 19th Circa 1850
