The First Harshang Bakhshayesh
Published by Herrmann in Seltene Orientteppiche IV in 1982, this is one of the all time Bakhshayesh greats. It dates to the early 19th century and is a unique artwork for various reasons:
1. The saffron yellow tonality.
2. The Harshang design, one of the most vibrant and collectible styles of the 18th century.
3. The exciting range of vegetable dyes, including various shades of blue, pink and green.
4. The all wool foundation.
5. The uncommon size.
For additional info, the carpet was published in my book The Persian Carpet: The Forgotten Years 1711-1872 as one of the very few surviving rugs from the Heriz district to be produced circa 1800.

Rug No. 156310
Antique Serapi Bakshaish rug with an enigmatic tribal design in the inspiring pastel tones 19th century Bakshaish Serapi are cherished for. The unencumbered asymmetrical artwork makes the carpet dance playfully before the eyes. But, it may be the subtlety of the colors that truly distinguishes this piece. Photos will never do it justice. One of the best.
Size: 9’0”x13’1”
Age: 4th Quarter 19th Century
Origin: Serapi Bakshaish, Northwest Persia
Materials: Hand knotted handspun wool pile on a cotton and wool foundation. Natural dyes.
Condition: Good condition overall with low velvety pile over most of the rug. Shows some signs of use and a few scattered small repairs in the border. Ready to enjoy and suitable for normal everyday use. More photos and information on request. Authenticity and connoisseur luxury level quality are guaranteed.
One of my all time favorite Heriz type rugs. This is a fairly rare design with absolutely the best colors and wool from the region. It dates from the period 1890-1910. For the rug nerds, it is single wefted blue and white cotton with a very fine weave and soft handle. Not for sale.
How many superlatives can you pack into a paragraph? I don't want to find out so will let this large antique Heriz sing its own praises.
Size 9'6"x13'7" Condition excellent!
Antique Isfahan Wonder!
This gorgeous beauty was purchased by my grandfather over 50 years ago. It travelled across countries as our family business moved about and for the last few decades lay forgotten in our warehouses. Until I discovered it again—for the first time in my life—last week.
This is a relatively big size for old Isfahan. It’s intact with full end kilims and full pile. I love it. The drawing is immaculate and elegant. I love the central medallion and its abrashed camel hair, a relic of the XIX century Shoureshi school of ancient Isfahan.

Simply the most amazing antique Kashkuli Millefleurs I’ve ever seen - tribal art never looked so good.
Detail from a Qashqai pardeh boasting irresistible green & blue natural dyes and a remarkably tight weave. Larger and finer than all others I’ve seen, with a complex flower pattern and a flock of birds in the border.
Luxurious antique Isfahan of the highest quality. Exquisite border with a rare use of indigo. The lack of corner spandrels gives the field a more expansive feel. Equally decorative and attractive as an investment piece.

Mint condition
Insane green natural dye on this authentic masterpiece from the personal hand of the legendary Grand Master Mohtasham of Kashan Can you see how sophisticated and rich the design is? Pure omg omg .. mid XIX Century and not for sale.
A finely woven antique Heriz Serapi that stands apart from the crowd. My theory is that the designer and weaver were madly in love. Size is 9'3"x13' SOLD
Always searching for something a little different. I couldn't resist the medallion on this antique Heriz, so here it is in its geometric glory. Size is 8'3"x11'. SOLD but I have more!
Times are crazy and stressful, but I find losing myself in a beautiful rug is a wonderful temporary antidote. When I unpacked this very old, circa 1875, Persian Bidjar I forgot about the world and all that is happening. The gemstone colors and ancient design, and the velvety wool, draw you in like you are joining them in another time and space. It is very special, and then you realize you are late for an appointment.
I'm very excited about this antique Heriz rug. It has the most beautiful age patina and the colors have a light crisp tonality. And it is a great size at 8'8"x12'0". Just listed today and it is ready to go. Might be the one for you!
Spoiler alert: one of my favourite rugs
I’m in love with the exuberance of this antique tribal Khamseh! It’s an exceptional piece in so many ways, but the overpowering beauty is what weakens my knees whenever I see it
The size is incredibly hard to find. Happiness trapped in a 7’ x 10’ frame (305 x 222 cm). These Morghy peacock rugs invariably are Kelleh proportioned, long and narrow. This, however, is generously balanced with amazing width
The awesomeness mostly resides in the terrific natural dyes. The turquoise blue is sublime. Simply sublime. Over 95% of these Khamseh rugs are dark blue. See the detail shots and you’ll notice the breathtaking appeal extends to all motifs and decorative sections. I absolutely love the colorful borders
This nomadic masterpiece is in superb condition after over 130 years of existence. It hasn’t lost an ounce of sparkle and is one of the most magical things I’ve had. The lady who created it was blessed with boundless taste and grace
Santa got me my Christmas present this week just in time for your Christmas shopping! Give us a call or walk right in.
Enjoy this attractive antique Heriz with its glowing natural dyes and elegantly crafted design. Absolutely mint condition with full pile and original ends - so hard to find them in such shape and with such beauty.
Splendid Soof Silk Tabriz With Gold Thread
Welcome to a higher state of consciousness. Foundation, border & embossed motifs in pure silk. The carved out backdrop in golden color is solid gold thread
150 x 100 cm, early XX Century
AAA - Absolutely Amazing Afshar
Not your average nomadic weave and not a typical Gol Farang rug. I love the little boteh rows at either end and the scattered tribal clutter in between the bouquets.
Full pile, mint condition, extant kilim ends and all the best you can hope for!
358 x 100
Circa 1880
Detailed shots of the awesome Serapi gracing the back cover of halimagazine this month. It’s one of the prettiest I’ve had and we all know how rare ivory ones are. The large size is so hard to find in this quality. The natural dyes make it all work—be sure to spot the excellent sky blue splashed around the carpet. I love the quirk of two spandrels (field corners) being in peach red while the opposite two are in a delightful cafe au lait tone. Did you see the little camels?
537 x 376

Sometimes the stars align and a miraculous combination of style, beauty and grace is created.
HERIZMANIA—simply the most formidable woven art form. A raw expression of agility, wit, and pathos. Heartwarming, decorative, soulful and timeless.
Irrepressibly irresistible. A mint condition early Heriz with allover drawing and the most bodacious natural dyes ever. I never tire of looking at it and marvelling at the dexterity of the unnamed artist who created it.
390 x 270
Circa 1875
Fabulous antique Tehran on silk foundation and with huge silk flowers, a variant of the much beloved Cloudband & Lotus rugs of the Safavid age. What a splendid border too!

Rug No. 68218
Antique Persian Bidjar (Bijar) Garrus village rug with a bold mystical design. It has a shamanic impression with its organic, almost abstract, botanical motifs. The colors are balanced between navy blue and coral with accents of sage green, lemon yellow, Egyptian blue, maroon, salmon, emerald green, milk chocolate, and cream.
Size: 7’10”x10’8”
Age: 1910
Origin: Northwest Persian Kurdistan
Materials: Hand knotted hand spun wool pile on a wool foundation.
Condition: Good condition overall with low pile, areas of wear, and a couple of small old repairs. Ready to enjoy and suitable for normal everyday use.
Visually speaking, this really ought to be a Tehran but in fact it is an early Kashan from the Dabir generation. The all over Shah Abbas field of lotus flowers, palmettes, and arabesques is populated with lions, dragons and other mythical creatures--exactly what you would find on Tehran rugs. This makes it quite a unique find for a Kashan, especially with its cream field.
440 x 313
Circa 1920
Garden of Heavenly Delight
A sweet antique Kashan woven with Manchester Kork lambswool, with so-called Paradise Park or Ferdowsi theme, depicting the Garden of Eden before the Creation Of Man.

Highly decorative & attractive
Also a good repository of value
Magnificent Shoureshi Isfahan with 16 secret peacocks hidden gracefully within the stunning design.
Carpets of the early Shoureshi tradition like this boast attractive earthy tones and heartwarming natural dyes. The ivory field is complemented by a delightful camel coloured border.
The rotund medallion is elegantly silhouetted and detailed, a Babylonian sun disc with eye catching interior features. The detailing of the field and corner spandrels reveal more riches of the weaver’s masterful imagination.
The dimensions, as well as the drawing and composition, confirm this is a carpet over 100 years old from the beginning of the 20th century.

After a refresh from a light rain yesterday, the sun is now shining clear with all the smells of fall in the air. Seemed appropriate to share our special Serapi with you. It was produced in the 1870-1880 period by remarkable artisans whose talents for dying and weaving are long lost. Size is 10'2"x13'2" and condition is 100% original with a graceful patina. Enjoy the season!
